Cover your nipples first, cut the tape to suit your outfit, anchor the bottom edge under the breast, lift with one hand and smooth the tape upward toward your shoulder or collarbone with the other, and repeat until you have the shape you want. Plan on wearing it for a few hours, a night out or an event rather than a whole day: this is an extra-strong tape with a medical-grade adhesive that grips harder the longer it's on. To take it off, soak it in oil, wait a couple of minutes, and peel slowly. Boob tape is the only Bare Babe product that actually lifts and supports, and it's the one where technique makes all the difference.
The Rules That Keep It Painless
None of these are reasons not to use tape. They're the difference between a lift you forget about and a removal you remember.
- Cover your nipples first. Never tape directly over them. An adhesive cover or a satin pasty goes on before the first strip.
- Take it off with oil, every time. Soap and water won't break down the adhesive, and peeling it dry is what hurts. Our Boob Tape Remover Oil is made for exactly this.
- Keep it to a few hours. The adhesive bonds more tightly the longer it's on skin, so an evening is the sweet spot. Wearing it much longer can make removal painful and leave the skin irritated.
- Healthy skin only. Not on broken, irritated, sunburned or freshly shaved skin, and not if your skin reacts to adhesive. Patch test first: wear a small piece of tape on the inside of your forearm for 30 minutes to an hour, take it off with oil, and check the skin again a few hours later.
- Don't sleep in it. Take it off before bed, with oil.
What's in the Kit
One roll of extra-strong tape, 2in × 15ft (5cm × 4.6m), in your choice of five shades (Creme, Honey, Caramel, Cocoa, Mocha), plus five pairs of round satin pasties. The adhesive is medical-grade and holds harder than most tapes you'll have tried, which is why it lifts, and also why the removal rules above matter. It's single use: once a strip comes off, it doesn't go back on.
How Long Can You Wear Boob Tape?
A few hours, around three to four. That's a night out, a wedding, an event, a photoshoot. It is not an all-day product, and that's by design: the adhesive keeps bonding to your skin for as long as it's on, so the hold you have at hour one is stronger by hour five, and what came off easily with oil after an evening can be painful and leave your skin red after a full day. If your plans run long, take it off at the first chance you get rather than pushing through.
For all-day coverage without lift, a silicone cover is the right product. Tape is for the hours that need the lift.
What to Wear It With
Tape works best under fabric that doesn't show every line underneath: thicker fabrics, structured pieces, lined bodices, or anything flowy. Under a single layer of thin, skin-tight fabric you'll likely see the creases of the tape and the outline of each strip, especially where strips overlap. So a structured strapless dress, a backless dress in a heavier fabric like crepe or velvet, or a flowy halter are ideal; a thin ribbed bodysuit or a clingy satin slip is not.
Match the tape to the outfit, not the other way round. Cut each strip to suit the neckline and the cut-outs, and trim the ends: round the corners so they don't catch on fabric, or angle them so a strip can run diagonally and stay inside the line of the dress. The patterns below cover the three common shapes.
Before You Start: What Goes Under the Tape
Skin must be clean and completely dry, with no lotion, oil, deodorant or sunscreen anywhere the tape will touch. Do your hair and makeup first so nothing drips on the tape later. Have scissors, a mirror and your outfit within reach.
Then cover the nipples. The kit ships with satin pasties and they do the job, but what we recommend is an Adhesive Nipple Cover or, for sensitive nipples, a Sensitive (Nip-Safe) cover: they stick on their own and stay put while you tape over them. Don't use a non-adhesive cover under tape. It has nothing holding it in place, so you end up trying to keep it still with one hand while lifting and taping with the other, and it slides.
The Classic Lift, Step by Step
- Apply an adhesive cover or a satin pasty over each nipple. Press the edges down. Never tape directly over the nipple.
- Cut your first strip to suit the outfit. Hold the roll against yourself and measure from the crease under the breast up to the collarbone, plus a little spare, then cut. Round or angle the corners so they don't catch on fabric and so the strip stays inside the line of your neckline.
- Peel back the first few inches of backing and stick that end under the breast, at the crease, slightly to the outside.
- Lift. Cup the breast with your free hand and lift it to where you want it to sit. Hold it there. If the skin folds a little as you lift, that's normal; tape straight over the fold (more on this below).
- Smooth the tape upward with the other hand, peeling the backing as you go, pressing the tape flat against the skin all the way to the collarbone or shoulder. No wrinkles.
- Repeat with a second strip slightly overlapping the first, and again if you need more hold. Larger or heavier breasts usually take two or three strips per side; smaller ones one or two. Do the other side to match, then check in the mirror in the outfit before you commit.
Two More Patterns
Strapless or deep-V plunge. Anchor each strip low at the side of the breast and run it diagonally up toward the center of the chest, so the tape pulls in as well as up and the center stays clear of the neckline. Angle the top end of the strip to follow the V.
Open sides or a cut-out. Anchor under the breast and run the tape straight up over the top of the breast toward the shoulder, keeping it inside the line of the outfit. Check in a mirror from the side before you dress.
Softer, Post-Breastfeeding or Larger Breasts
If your breasts are softer, lower-set or heavier than they used to be, after breastfeeding, after weight changes, after surgery, or just with time, tape is the product that actually helps, because it's the only one that carries weight. Two things to know.
First, expect some skin to fold as you lift. When there's loose skin, lifting the breast up gathers it, and you'll see a small fold under or beside the breast as you hold it in place. That's normal. Tape straight over it; the fold doesn't affect the shape or the look once the strip is smoothed down, and it doesn't show under the outfit. Don't try to stretch the skin flat first.
Second, use more strips and anchor lower. Heavier breasts need two or three strips per side, each anchored well under the breast at the crease, and a slightly wider overlap between strips so the hold is shared. The large bust guide goes deeper on this.
How to Remove Boob Tape
This is where an extra-strong tape earns its reputation, good or bad. Done with oil, it comes off cleanly. Done dry, it hurts. There's no third option, so plan the removal before you put it on.
- Soak it. Spray or pour oil over the whole strip until it darkens. Our Boob Tape Remover Oil is made with coconut, sweet almond and jojoba oils for this, in a spray so you can saturate a strip without touching it; coconut or olive oil from the kitchen also works in a pinch.
- Wait one to two minutes. The oil has to get under the adhesive. If a strip won't budge, give it longer and add more oil.
- Peel slowly from the top down, keeping the tape folded back close to the skin rather than pulling it straight up, and adding more oil under the edge as it lifts. Never pull fast. Wipe off any residue with more oil, then wash with soap and water.
If a strip won't budge, you need more oil and more time, not more force. And if you've worn it longer than planned, double the soak before you start.
How Much Tape Will I Use?
It depends on your bust and the look. A larger bust with a three-strip lift uses the most per wear; a smaller bust with one strip per side uses the least. Either way one roll, 2in × 15ft (5cm × 4.6m), typically gives you 5 to 15 uses, and it's the only Bare Babe product you'll buy again on a schedule.
Who Boob Tape Isn't For
It's the wrong product if all you need is nipple coverage under a regular top; a cover does that with far less effort. It's not for all-day wear. It's not for skin that reacts to adhesive, and not for anyone who isn't willing to use oil to take it off. If either of those is you, look at our Sensitive (Nip-Safe) covers or the Silicone Sticky Bra instead.

FAQ
How long can I keep boob tape on?
A few hours, around three to four: a night out or an event, not a whole day. The adhesive bonds harder the longer it's on, so a longer wear means a harder, more irritating removal. Take it off with oil before bed, every time.
What should I wear under the tape?
An adhesive cover: our Adhesive Nipple Covers, or the Sensitive (Nip-Safe) covers if your nipples are sensitive. They stick on their own and stay put while you tape over them. The satin pasties in the kit work too. Don't use non-adhesive covers under tape; they slide while you're trying to lift and tape at the same time.
Will the tape show under my top?
Under a single layer of thin, skin-tight fabric, usually yes: you'll see the creases and the outline of each strip. Under thicker, structured or flowy fabric, no. Cut and angle the strips to stay inside the line of the neckline.
Does boob tape work on softer or post-breastfeeding breasts?
Yes, and it's the product we'd pick, because it's the only one that carries weight. Expect a little skin to fold as you lift; that's normal with looser skin, and you tape straight over it with no effect on the shape. Use more strips and anchor each one lower.
Does it work for large breasts?
Yes, and it's the product we recommend for lift from a D up. Use more strips, anchor lower, and don't expect a bra-level hold from one strip. Our large bust guide has the technique.
Can I sweat in it?
Yes. It's waterproof and sweatproof, and once it has set, most women wear it through a sweaty night out. Apply it to cool, dry skin and give it a few minutes before you get moving. Keep the wear to a few hours either way.
Can I reuse a strip?
No. The adhesive is single use.
Can I take it off with soap and water?
No. Soap and water don't break down this adhesive, and peeling it dry is what hurts. Saturate it in oil, wait one to two minutes, then peel slowly. The Boob Tape Remover Oil is the easiest way; coconut or olive oil works in a pinch.
It hurt to remove last time. What did I do wrong?
Usually one of three things: not enough oil, not enough waiting, or wearing it too long. Saturate it, give it a couple of minutes, peel slowly with the tape folded back on itself, and keep the next wear to a few hours.
